About Hyland Vineyard

In 1971, four families teamed up to plant Pinot Noir vines on a breathtaking perch set at 600-800 feet in the foothills of Oregon's Coastal Range. The soils were a mix of volcanic Jory and Nekia. Daytime highs were cooler than the rest of Willamette Valley. But at night, the temperature plummeted, as cool breezes pushed through the valley off the Pacific. In 2007, the Hyland Vineyard was acquired by Laurent Montalieu and Danielle Andrus Montalieu in partnership with John Niemeyer who are working to optimize the existing vineyard quality and honor its past by introducing the first estate wines. For decades, the fruit from the vineyard has produced many award-winning wines from benchmark producers under their own labels and this legacy continues today. Following the 2007 purchase of the property by Laurent Montalieu and John Niemeyer, the vineyard was expanded to almost 200 acres and the majority of the Hyland fruit has been sold to award-winning winemakers such as Lynn Penner-Ash, Josh Bergström, Micheal Etzel (Beaux Frères), and Maggie Harrison (Antica Terra). In 2011, the Hyland Estates winery was born.
