Gold Rated Vineyard

Introduction

There is general agreement that high quality winegrapes are an essential part of making great wine. But what makes great grapes? What combinations of vineyard site characteristics and management practices have lead to grapes buyers want and wines critics award?

Everyvine’s Vineyard Ratings were created to help answer those questions. We apply modern statistical techniques to our ever-expanding database of vineyards. Our algorithms compare vineyards at the block level and tease out what great vineyards have in common. In the end, if our analysis has found evidence that a vineyard site is capable of producing high quality grapes the vineyard is rated. Ratings range from bronze (some evidence found) to platinum (significant evidence found). More about how ratings are calculated is explained here.

Why Rate Vineyards?

The mission of Everyvine is to help figure out what makes grapes great. To that end we collect tons of data about the worlds vineyards. In fact, for a given vineyard we track over 150 different characteristics. Everything from slope, soil, and temperature profiles to vineyard block design methods and management. All that information is great to have, which is why we provide free access to it. But all that info can be overwhelming. It can take days to assess even a few vineyards given the amount of data available. What if you just need a pretty good answer now?

That’s why Everyvine rates vineyards. Its a simple system that helps people determine how similar the grapes of one vineyard are to the grapes of other vineyards producing world class wines.
